Autopoiesis and Knowledge Management

The field of knowledge management is relatively new, but has suffered from a large influx papers on different topics, often with competing views. Often, these ideas have not been tested, which compounds the problem of knowing what is the 'right thing'.

Autopoiesis is a theory taken from Biology which proposes an alternative way of analysing living systems. It proposes that living systems are autonomous, self producing entities which generate all of the phenomena proper to them. It is hoped that autopoiesis can provide a scientific foundation for some of the ideas, and allow the field of knowledge management to progress from its preliminary stages.

The project is due to finish in 2008. For more information please visit here
